Prayer Shawl, Week Two

I finished the shawl, and added an edging for my tassels. I just did a scalloped edging, with sc, dc, tc, dc, sc, then joined with a slip stitch. Then I added the tassels to the tc stitch. And I'm done!

Prayer Shawl, Week One

Here is a wrap I started this week - I work on it about an hour a day, so I'd say I'm about 8 hours into it, and about 1/2 way done.

I am making this for our church's care ministry. Knitters and crocheters make these shawls, and then they are given to people who are sick, or going through a difficult time.

Click here for more information about prayer shawl ministries.

For this one, I am alternating rows with 3 rows sc, and 3 rows dc. I started with a chain of 70 - which leaves me 69 stitches per row. I'm using a J hook, and Lion Brand Yarn, Vanna's Choice 7 oz, color - Dusty Rose. I'm 1/2 way through my second skein.

This is an easy pattern, and great for beginning crocheters.

Easy Scarf

Here's an easy scarf I made for my daughter this weekend. It took me a total of about 2 hours. I let her pick the fuzzy soft yarn.

If you are just learning to crochet, don't pick a fuzzy yarn. With this scarf, you can't see the stitched, so it is pure guesswork - you just kind of fake it.

This scarf is made with Yarn Bee brand yard, type is "luscious" and color is Black Raspberry. It is 3.5 oz, and I used about 3/4 of the skein. I used crochet hook size J.

The pattern:

Round 1: chain 9, turn, skip 1st ch, sc in 8 remaining chains, ch 2, turn.
Round 2: dc in each sc (8 total), ch 2, turn. Repeat for desired length.
Roung 3: for last row, ch 1 and turn, sc in each dc across.

Add fringe or tassels if desired.

Welcome to my New Blog

I decided rather than just give you information about vintage crafts, I'd share with you some of what I'm working on, or (often) trying to figure out.

Many of the postings will link to pages on Vintage-Crafts-Patterns-Designs.com, or suppliers like eBay, or JoAnn's. I'll try to make them open in new windows, so if you want more information you can find it.

I'd love to hear your comments, and if you have your own blog of your projects, let me know.

Happy Crafting!
